Roads and infrastructure works

We build better roads for the future...

Looking at the boom of infrastructure sector in
the country during the past years and infrastructure solutions need to keep up with
climate, durability and delivery requirements.
We provide end-to-end infrastructure implementation solutions that include engineering, procurement and construction services on a fixed-sum turnkey basis as well as on an item rate basis.
We handle civil engineering projects with specialization in roads  and highways including maintenance.
Infrastructure is often called heavy civil or heavy engineering that includes large public works, dams, bridges, highways, railways, water or wastewater and utility distribution.

Roads, utilities and site infrastructure

Infrastructure is what makes a development usable: the roads that reach it, the networks that serve it, and the drainage that keeps it working after rain. HEIBCO delivers infrastructure packages for residential compounds, industrial parks and commercial developments, and as part of wider civil infrastructure projects where the ground conditions call on the company's ground engineering capability.

Scope of works

  • Earthworks and formation — cut and fill, subgrade preparation, compaction to specified density, and capping layers.
  • Pavement construction — granular sub-base and base courses, asphalt binder and wearing courses, and rigid concrete pavement for heavy-duty and industrial areas.
  • Road furniture and finishes — kerbs, footways, line marking, signage, guard rails and street lighting.
  • Drainage — stormwater collection, gullies, manholes, culverts, outfalls and attenuation.
  • Wet utilities — potable water distribution mains, sewerage networks, pumping stations, and connections into the treatment works covered under water and wastewater treatment.
  • Dry utilities — electrical ducting and cabling routes, telecom ducts, and chambers.
  • Structures — bridges, culverts and retaining structures forming part of the highway or site network.

Getting the sequence right

Infrastructure fails commercially far more often through sequencing than through workmanship. Every buried service must be laid, tested and recorded before the pavement above it is built, because breaking out a finished road to correct a missed connection is one of the most expensive mistakes available on a development. HEIBCO coordinates utility installation, testing and as-built survey as a single controlled sequence, with a clear record of what is where before surfacing begins.

Egypt-specific considerations

Two factors shape infrastructure design locally. The first is temperature: asphalt specification and laying practice have to account for high summer pavement temperatures if rutting under heavy traffic is to be avoided. The second is rainfall — Egypt's is low but concentrated, so drainage sized on average rainfall performs badly in exactly the storm events that matter. Designing for the intense short-duration event is what keeps a development's roads passable. On the newer cities, coordination with the developer and the utility authorities over connection points and phasing is usually the longest lead item on the programme.

Frequently asked questions

What does an infrastructure package from HEIBCO cover?

Earthworks and formation, sub-base and base courses, asphalt and concrete pavements, kerbs, footways, lighting and signage, stormwater drainage, potable water and sewerage networks, electrical and telecom ducting, and associated structures such as culverts and retaining walls.

Does HEIBCO install utilities as well as roads?

Yes. Wet and dry utilities are delivered with the roadworks as one sequence, with every buried service laid, tested and recorded on an as-built survey before the pavement above it is constructed.

What should be considered for drainage design in Egypt?

Rainfall is low but concentrated. Drainage sized on average rainfall tends to fail in exactly the short, intense storms that matter, so design should target the intense short-duration event.
